Services for Seniors and People with Disabilities
Two Rivers Services to seniors are community-based programs designed to assist seniors or persons with disabilities to maintain their independence and remain in their homes. Dedicated volunteers and fee-for-service workers provide transportation to appointments, shopping, and errands, arrange house cleaning, yard and minor maintenance work. Other services offered are friendly visitors, friendly phone calls, completion of forms, companion service, foot care, Victoria Lifeline, E.R.I.K., Community Tax Programs, referrals, Falls Prevention, seniors’ exercises, health and wellness events, Shirley’s Kitchen (Congregate Meals), volunteer opportunities and more.
Local police service is provided by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Pinawa Detachment. For non-emergency situations call 204-753-2217. For emergency situations always call 911.
Additional community policing programs are provided by COPS (Citizens on Patrol) and Conservation TIP Line (1-800-782-0076) and Pinawa Fire Department.
Local Health Practitioners
The community wellness team in Pinawa offers community-centred programming to prevent or control chronic disease conditions. Other health services to be found within Pinawa include physiotherapy, mental health counselling, home care, nutrition counselling, and a dental clinic. Our health care experts are trained to treat your entire family.
Pinawa also offers a local Pharmacy, and Dental Clinic with one dentist and two dental assistants.
We take pride in the depth of our community resources, both volunteer and fee-based, including: transportation escorts, housekeeping, friendly visiting, telephone checks, personal response system, various support groups, health and wellness promotion events, meal programs, and advocacy among others.
Our Community Resource Councils provide services enabling Seniors to maintain an independent lifestyle. A Home Care Program is available to those requiring health services or assistance with daily living.
Sports and recreation
We enjoy many sports and outdoor activities such as golf on our own amazing 18-hole course, swimming, tennis courts, a curling club, hockey and skating in our local arena, fishing, boating, hiking, and much more.
Town water and sewage
Water and Sewer Service is available in the Town of Pinawa. There is an emergency generator for the water and sewer lift stations keeping your water and sewer working when the hydro is out.
Local grocery and shopping
Pinawa’s local businesses fulfill a variety of shopping and business needs for residents.
The Solo Market located in the Sunova Mall is the place where residents find their everyday groceries and other items. The store also contains a Manitoba Liquor Commission location. Also located in the Sunova Mall is a Canada Post outlet, pharmacy, and a hair salon and spa. Additional retail-level businesses can be found in the W.B. Lewis Business Centre and other locations throughout the town.
There are over 26 home-based businesses ranging from Internet empowered consultants to hairdressers.
Pinawa Public Library, located in the Pinawa Community Centre, provides the community with an extensive collection of books, magazines, audiobooks, and videos.
Pinawa Public Library is part of the Manitoba system of public libraries, and has access to books by interlibrary loan from the libraries of Manitoba and across Canada. The library also hosts special events such as book readings, storytime, games nights and special interest topic evenings. Free Wi-Fi and two community access computers are available.
