Safe and secure environment
Pinawa is located at the end of a highway and experiences no through-traffic, thus making the roads safer and community more secure. In Pinawa, we are confident in our complete freedom to pursue daily activities and enjoy public order. In our tightknit community with our easy-going and neighbourly attitude, we look out for each other and take pride in our safe and nearly crime-free community. The town is part of the provincial 911 network.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) patrols Pinawa and maintains a local detachment in the centre of town. For non-emergency situations, call 204-753-2217.
Additional community policing programs are provided via the COPS (Citizens on Patrol) and Conservation TIP Line (1-800-782-0076).
Fire Protection Services are provided by the Pinawa Volunteer Fire Department, which responds to an average of over 30 calls per year. The town is part of the Provincial 911 network. Pinawa has a full hydrant system running the entire length and breadth of the community.
The mission statement of the Pinawa Volunteer Fire Department is to save lives and protect property through prevention, preparedness, education, and response. The Fire Department currently has 13 dedicated members who train regularly every Monday evening. Current equipment includes a Pumper Truck, a wildfire response trailer and a rescue vehicle equipped with the Jaws of Life. In the spring of 2011 the town built a new fire hall to accommodate the delivery of a new pumper truck. The Pinawa Volunteer Fire Department is a member of the North East Mutual Aid District partnering with 13 other Fire Departments for additional resources.
Healthcare and Safety are an important part of any relocation decision.
Our local health care services are quite extensive, and nearby Winnipeg health care services are readily accessible.
A primary health care centre attached to the hospital offers us ready access to physicians, laboratory and X-ray services, a four-station community cancer clinic, mental health services, physiotherapy, pastoral care, palliative care and public health nurse. Also operating out of Pinawa is a 24-hour EMS facility.
The Pinawa Hospital is an accredited 17-bed acute care hospital providing healthcare services including: acute care and 24-hour emergency room service supported by 24-hour diagnostic services, medical clinic with two physicians; physiotherapy department, pastoral care, palliative care and temporary placement for long-term care clients.
Considering a move here from outside of Canada?
When you move to Pinawa, you and your family come under the umbrella of the Canada Health Act, the cornerstone of the Canadian health care system. The Act provides for a universal, accessible, and comprehensive publicly administered health insurance system, which ensures that all residents of Canada have access to necessary hospital and physician services.
