Important Changes to Garbage & Recycling Pickup : CLICK HERE: New 2026 Calendar

The LGD of Pinawa will be implementing a pilot project to improve residential garbage and recycling collection efficiency.

This change follows the purchase of a new garbage truck equipped with compaction capability and a three-person crew configuration. The new equipment allows us to review routing and improve operational performance while maintaining the same level of service.

1. Garbage Pickup (Weekly)

  •      New Garbage Day: Wednesday (Town-Wide) : Starts April 15, 2026
  •      Garbage will be collected every Wednesday for all residential properties.
  •      Garbage remains weekly.

2. Recycling Pickup (Bi-Weekly – Alternating Zones)

Recycling will now be collected on Tuesdays, with the Town divided into two areas:

  •       East Zone (Green) – All properties east of Vanier Drive (including Awanipark): Starts April 14, 2026
  •       West Zone(Yellow) – All properties west of Vanier Drive: Starts April 21, 2026

Recycling remains bi-weekly, but East and West will alternate each week.

What Is NOT Changing:

  • Garbage is still collected weekly.
  • Recycling is still collected every two weeks.
  • Please continue placing carts out before 8:00 AM.
  • Service levels remain the same.

Why Is the LGD Making This Change?

This pilot project will allow the LGD to:

  • Improve route efficiency
  • Maximize use of the new compaction truck
  • Reduce unnecessary travel between zones
  • Improve staffing deployment
  • Reduce fuel consumption and vehicle wear
  • Simplify long-term scheduling

The goal is to maintain reliable service while improving operational efficiency.

The LGD recently purchased a new garbage truck with increased compaction capacity and a three-person operating configuration. The new equipment allows us to review routing and improve efficiency while maintaining the same level of service.

Standardizing garbage pickup to one day improves route efficiency, reduces travel time between zones, and maximizes the new truck’s compaction capabilities.

The pilot will run for several months to evaluate operational performance before determining whether to adopt the model permanently.

Residents should continue placing carts out before 8:00 AM. Route timing may vary during the pilot as crews optimize sequencing.
